For Schools

The Bridge House Theatre for Schools

The Bridge House is an award-winning theatre in the heart of Penge. With collaboration and community at the core of our approach, we have come together with Penge Youth Theatre to offer exciting and educational workshops to local schools. Built with students in mind, we have developed a programme based around the current curriculum to offer your students a unique and professional experience that will support their GCSE work.

Technical Workshops

Opening the doors of our 50-seat theatre, we offer technical workshops that delve behind the scenes as we introduce students to the multitude of possibilities when it comes to lighting, sound and set design. Run by our very own artistic director, Luke Adamson, a multi-award nominated lighting and sound designer. The workshop will include a breakdown of the many roles backstage, what goes into designing a show and the opportunity to get some hands-on experience setting up their own lighting and sound designs. With the option to add on a show in the current Bridge House programme to see how design comes to life on the stage, this workshop focuses on developing the students' understanding of stage design for Component 3 - Understanding Theatre Unit.

£200 for two hour workshop

Devising Theatre Workshops

Provided either at the school or in the theatre, we offer workshops focused on multiple practitioners and devising skills. Run by award-winning performer and theatre-maker, Sarah Richardson, these workshops take place in two-parts and can be offered together or separately. The first part takes the students through various exercises related to the chosen practitioner/s, learning not only how they worked but how the students can implement their approach in their own pieces. The second part focuses on how we make theatre, the fundamentals of devising and how to structure a new piece of work. Building the students knowledge, skills and confidence, these workshops focus on practically preparing them for Component 1 - Devising Unit.

Practitioners included: Stanislavski, Brecht, Berkoff, Emma Rice, Katie Mitchell, Theatre
in Education, Physical Theatre

Scene Surgeries

Preparing students for their examination in Component 2, we offer the chance to bring their scenes and work directly with Sarah Richardson. Students book and can come in either in pairs to work on a chosen duologue or individually with monologue to develop their performance and script work skills. Bringing her experience as an award-winning performer and theatre-maker, Sarah focuses on building the students confidence, developing their performance instincts and staging skills. She will also aim to demystify the exam by giving them the chance to perform in front of someone outside of their school.
