Play On Words 3!
Curated and compered by Lee Campbell, the evening will see performances from established performers with a focus on LGBT themes.
It will be a celebration of the beauty of language and the infinite possibilities that language has to impress, inform, move and entertain.
Dr Lee Campbell is an artist, poet, experimental filmmaker, writer and founder of Homo Humour, the first of its kind project on contemporary queer male film and moving image practices that explore humour and LGBTQ+ storytelling. His experimental performance poetry films have been selected for many international film festivals since 2019 including Queerbee LGBT Film Festival, The Gilbert Baker Film Festival, Kansas 2020 and 2021, HOMOGRAPHY, Brussels and STATES OF DESIRE: Tom of Finland in the Queer Imagination, Casa de Duende, Philadelphia, USA, 2020 WICKED QUEER 2021, Boston, USA, FilmPride - Brighton & Hove Pride's official LGBTQ+ film festival, Brighton, UK, Splice Film Festival 2021, Brooklyn, USA and Darkroom Festival, London.. He has won several awards/nominations for these films including Best Psychedelic Fantasy film winner for 'See Me' (2020), Retro Avant Garde Film Festival NYC 2021, Semi-Finalist at Serbest International Film Festival 2021, Honorable Mention and Semi Finalist winner at Splice Film Festival, New York (2020 and 2021), Nominee for Best Original Concept and Best Atmosphere Independent Horror Movie Awards 2021, Honorable Mention Award, Screener Short Films 2020, Best Kent Film nominee, Margate Bookie Film Festival, 2020 and Special Mention Award, London-Worldwide Comedy Short Film Festival, 2019.
Poet performers include:
Hannah Chutzpah has been described as 'fine' by three therapists, as 'of good character' by a high court judge, and as a 'potential maggot-thrower' by the Metropolitan Police. She studied creative writing at the University of East Anglia, and has been performing poetry since 2009, at venues ranging from Occupy Protests to the Royal Albert Hall. Hannah has taken one-woman poetry shows to the Edinburgh Fringe and is the current host of Incite, a free monthly LGBT+ spoken word night run by London LGBTQ+ charity Forum+. Hannah’s third collection, Permeable, was published by Burning Eye Books in 2017.

Barney is widely published in cult poetry journals in the UK, US and Canada. His recent poetry books are ‘Café Kaput!’ (2020, Broken Sleep) ‘F**kpig Zeitgeist!’ (2021, Cherry Red) and ‘Bucolicism’ (2021, Cherry Red) alongside his hybrid poetry/pop/theatre albums and concerts with Erasure’s Andy Bell, as ‘Andy Bell is Torsten’ and his spoken word passages on the albums of the Downes Braide Association. Poetry is pending publication in 2022 in Ice Floe Press, the Broken Sleep ‘Aphex Twin’ anthology, Poetry Bus, Gut Slut’s ‘Bonemilk’ and in Pastel Pastoral.

Ernesto is an award-winning poet, performer and film maker. Active in London’s poetry scene for many years and a promoter of successful queer literary events (Homophone, Glam Slam UK, Velvet Tongue), he has recently completed 'Queer Tongues', a documentary about LGBTQ+ spoken word. His writing has been published in literary outlets such as Magma, Grey Suit, Chroma, Velvet Mafia, Little Raven, Polluto, Lunar Poetry, Spoken Word London Anti-Hate Anthology 2018, amongst others. He has a poetry book called 'In the name of the flesh'.
