Persephone in Penge

A devising workshop focused towards creating short monologues that re-contextualise mythic characters into contemporary circumstances, through dynamic movement exercises and writing prompts.

We will be playing with Chekov, Suzuki and Viewpoints training to access the largesse of our mythic body. Writing from within this expansive, embodied playing field, we seek to connect mythic themes to our personal questions and emotional truths. We’ll shape these words into distinctive ways of speaking in order to create characters who sound like the world around us, while moving like the worlds that came before.

This is a creative laboratory that invites participants to allow their bodies to think, their minds to feel, and their presence to bridge the power of both.

Bring: movement clothes, water, notebook and writing implement.

Led by Cynthia Callejas, a cultural producer and educator from Colombia with a 20-year career spanning direction and performance across several different countries. She is currently visiting the U.K. on a grant from the national Ministry of Culture and the Municipal Institute of Culture of Bucaramanga. Her work addresses social issues and existential questions through multisensory, immersive, and interactive experiences, integrating performance creation, research, and the body as a narrative axis.
