“So what are gonna play?”
“Mummies, silly. That’s the best game.”

Dive into (mis)adventures into motherhood, an innovative double bill featuring the poignant and relatable Mothers Have Nine Lives by Joanna Norland and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, adapted by Ellie Ward. In an evening of unvarnished snapshots, we will unravel the intricate tapestry of motherhood and deliver raw and humorous exploration of the joys, struggles, and absurdities that accompany this transformative and multi-faceted experience.

In Mothers Have Nine Lives the voices of children echo the universal experiences of mothers navigating the minefield of expectations, love, and chaos. From the playful conversations of little girls to the candid reflections of mothers, the essence of childhood imagination is contrasted with the stark realities of parenting. Expect laughter, nostalgia, and a heartfelt reminder of the resilience found within every mother.

Meanwhile, The Yellow Wallpaper delves into the darker corners of motherhood, portraying the haunting struggles of a woman grappling with her identity in the face of societal pressures and personal anxieties. As she confronts the suffocating confines of a strange new situation in a strange new flat, the story unfolds into a powerful commentary on mental health and the quest for autonomy.

Prepare for a blend of darkness, humour and heart in an unforgettable evening that will resonate with anyone who has experienced the rollercoaster of motherhood.
